How you have helped so far...

Charity Balls

We started by organising a Summer ball where we launched the charity and raised over £3000. Some of this money was sent straight to Jamaica for the start of the school year where 23 children had been identified as desperately needing help.

These children now attend a variety of schools, from one of the best in Kingston to some of the poorest in the community.

Many younger children were also assisted with the purchase of uniforms and books, which meant they could actually attend school.

We are continuing to organise charity Balls, where any money raised helps maintain the 50 children, we continue to help, in school until at least 15.

Calendars

We produced a calendar for 2004 using images taken in Jamaica. Sales of the calendar have enabled us to maintain the original 23 kids in school for the coming academic year. Many are producing top grades, demonstrating their potential given the opportunity.

Christmas Stockings

At Christmas we organised a ‘Christmas Stocking’ appeal, where over 200 decorated shoe boxes filled with children’s gifts were donated by families in the UK.

The boxes were sent by diplomatic freight to the British High Commission in Kingston, where volunteers helped sort and distribute the gifts to over 200 children at a party organised in Olympic Gardens by a local church and UCS. For many of the B.H.C. this was the first opportunity for them to go to this area and actually meet the children.

British High Commission

We are working with the British High Commission in Jamaica on future funding for a university scholarship and also trying to establish a job placement scheme for some of the children you are already helping, as even with an education they are often overlooked because of the bad reputation of the area they live in.
